Thread: Time to "fess" up

I've been a member here for a number of years and felt it was time to introduce myself so to speak. Well I am retired now after a varied life farming building ,ten years in the TAFE system C&J Storeman and last ten selling rural propertys so there is more time now for my main interest woodwork timber woodturning. Born on Flinders Island moved here to NSW Wauchope 1966 and have lived in the area ever since. My first introduction to this addiction was wnhen my youngest brother I've got four and sisters too showed me a turned table lamp he had turned on the lathe thst was 72/3 sometime, well within a week I had read all three books at local library that had anything on turning inthem i bought a Makita variable speed drill and lathebed which I burnt out the first weekend in a month I had a converted metal lathe and the rot set in after about six years I bought a Luna 1000 lathe that lasted till nine years ago when I became a man with a Stubby 750 beautiful piece of machinery. In the early days most of my work was bowls smokers s tands small platters and goblets and egg cups all timber had to be perfect and was duly coated with two pack esterpol how times change. About fourteen years ago I begame a foundation member of the Hastings Woodworkers Guild based here in Wauchope at the Timbertown Tourist Theme Park. Meeting with other turners the challange was to aspire for better results and to push the boundrys and explore more artistic work. For some time our daughter lived in Canberra so it easy to visit Bungandor Gallery a couple times a year and see some of the work of the top Aust. turners in the flesh so to speak. Now with all but the first of David Dresher's Turnfests under my belt plus the 05 Woodturners of Great Britton seminar a library of some 30 turning books plus Aust Woodworker and Woodturning I think I am very much addicted. My current trend is to turn large bowls platters wall plaques timbers with plenty of colour or good grain patterns love burls any boring timber I use texturing and colouring and this is where my wife of forty years Lynn lends a hand as she is great with colours ,when I master the art of getting photos onto system I will give you a look at some of my work. I hope this hasent bored you to much.
