Default Wooden Surfboard enthusiast from Burleigh Heads QLD

It's exciting to be amongst such an informative forum of which so many members are proactive.
I'm a 21 year old from the Gold Coast and work alot with Paulownia, grown and milled in northern NSW, and use it for a variety of surfcraft. Surfing all my life in beautiful Burleigh Heads, as well as sharing the concerns of the environmental decline has led me to a yearning for people to more readily accept alternatives that come from the ground. Plastics and foam are no match from his highness, King Timber.

Wood is good, (as you all know), and I look forward to my knowledge growing exponentially under the guide of an accumulation of generations of knowledge as can be found on this site.

    Cheers,
    Jack

    Default Wooden surfboards

Hi Jack welcome to the forum. There is a Guy named Geoff who sells Paulownia and makes wooden surfboards at Burleigh Heads. You should find him a good resource both to buy timber and construction advice. His phone number is XXXXXXXXXX. His workshop is in Burleigh Heads.

    Hi John,
Yep Geoff's my Dad so I'm sure we may well have crossed paths somewhere along the lifespan of Dovetail. I work closely with him in the factory. Handy having a good mentor for builds, those boards can get tricky towards the end.

We get alot of praise regarding Whitewood's operation, big shoes to fill maybe?

    G'Day & Welcome "Jack",
I spent a lot of holidays on the coast in the early 1960's, then at maroochy in the late 1960's, but never got on a board, just body surfin.
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Thank you for the photos showing off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodworking.
    Cheers crowie

    Hi Graintrain,

Yes I have met you briefly at one of the Currimbin Alley wooden surfboard gatherings. I felt it may have been too much of a coincidence that you were in Burleigh and knew about the mill in Northern NSW. If your boards end up as good as Geoffs then you'll be doing well.

Whitewood is glad he stopped when I did. I just had my second full knee replacement and it is taking a lot more time than I expected to get back to normal. I still read the forum regularly and stick my sixpence worth in about Paulownia if it is relevant.

Dusteater, such a beautiful piece, the inlays look fantastic. I'm sure the photos don't do it justice either.
I'll post some photos of my next build when i can get around to documenting it
