"El Cheapo" Roller Stands Fix
Recently mysterious scratches were appearing at random on some of the timber I had cut on the table saw - a real pain as I could not find any cause. I examined the table top in microscopic detail looking for a burr etc - nothing. Then I found the cause - rust pits etc on the cheapo roller stands. Not really a problem when going straight over but when going over at an angle or slid then the problem surfaced. I was aware of their limitations when I bought the 2 of them at approx $50 for the pair but my budget didn't stretch to the $400+ for the "real" ones.
Solved the problem by wire wheeling the rust off, cladding the rollers in flat fold irrigation pipe [ to bring the 47.5mm roller up in diameter to make for a firmish slide fit for the PVC pipe], I also beefed up the horizontal plate which holds the rollers with 3mm aluminium tread plate.
I figure if I had the problem others might also.
Regards,
Bob

Actually I have meant to post about the $10 ones i bought. They ahve been good but they too require a simple mod.
The feet are attached to the legs by a cap screw into a barrel. The barrel is exactly the same length as the shs is wide so one end of the barrel will pull in skewing the foot. The fix is simple and obvious. You stove in the leg on either side so the barrel protrudes. It's just giving the shs a belt over the holes the barrels stick through. Now they are fine.
No pics sorry. Hope the above makes sense.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.
