Default Using a magnet to hold a faster in an awkward situation

I've been making SWMBO some accessories for her needlefelting hobby and today I was up for making a "reverse hand carder". "Reverse" just means the angled tips on the tines on the carding cloth are oriented opposite to the normal use direction.

The woodwork is nothing special a piece of 75 x75 x 20 mm timber with one of the larger surfaces curved and onto which the carding cloth is attached while the other side has a handle.

My fastener of choice were some small tacks but the dilemma was how to get in between the carding cloth tines to hammer them home. A punch seemed one way, but then how to hold tack/punch and hammer to get in between the tines. I've done something similar before with screws and a magnet on the screwdriver. Tried that - holds the tack nicely, gets down between the times nicely.
The hit punch with hammer but it stuck fast to the punch - of course

A handy hardwood mallet save the day but I could have used my Al and bass mallet as well.

I've made quite a few accessories and here are a few more

Bob....you will be accruing plenty of brownie points with SWMBO. It will put you in credit so you may be able to get that next tool/machine. You are also demonstrating your versatility working with different mediums
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Nice assortment.

May I ask whether she's a spinner or felter?

If a spinner, is she a knitter or weaver? (God have mercy on you if she's all of the above!)

Just asking so we know whether we can to expect to see 'warping boards and raddles' or 'niddy-noddys & lazy kates' emerging from your shop in the near future?
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    No weaving, thank goodness.
She was primarily a spinner but is now mainly a felter.
