10" trailer tyres
Hi All,
I'm building a small boat trailer. I have a set of 10" alloy rims but no tyres. Anyone know where I can get these tyres. I'm in the brisbane area.
Also how much of a gap do you leave between the inside of the tyre and the outer edge of the frame. I need to calculate the axle length but i'm not sure about this measurement. The width of the trailer frame is 1330mm from outside to outside. The rims have a 75mm offset.
Cheers
Michael.

10" tyres
Hiya Michael,
The selection of 10" tyres is pretty limited , have a look here for a list of what is currently available. There was also a 145 Ohtsu available. Ring around your local tyre shops and see what they can get in a 145/10 or 165/10 and how much.
cheers

Perhaps you could try a commercial boat trailer builder or a tyre dealer in a coastal location. I needed 10" tyres for a little Kubota tractor and that was the source I used.

10 wheels are fitted to almost every Mini built by Leyalnd. Some had 12" wheels.
Try Bob Jane's.

Hi All,
Found some at a trailer place in beenleigh(Brisbane Area). They are reasonably cheap(Well I think they are). Roughly $50 for tyre and tube.
Still need to figure out axle length. Can anyone help me with this.
Cheers
Michael.

Hey Michael.
Normally 40-50mm is plenty for a single axle trailer. If by "offset" you mean the inside rim to the face where it bolts to the hub, then I roughly calculate an axle measurement of 1580mm 'Face-to-Face', or 1620mm OAL. However, axles are mostly sold in imperial, so a 64" axle should do.
BUT... without all the other dimensions available to me, this is only a guide. I would need tyre width, guard width and confirmation of rim offset interpretation to be 100% sure.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? I think that is what he is refering to, but as you know, this is not the offset.
To the OP take a look here to determine the proper offset.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. I have attached a drawing of the trailer. Yonnee/Nev, you are correct in your interpretation of my "Offset". The rims are 10x4. I pick up the tyres today, not sure how wide they are. The trailer width is 1330mm. Guards will be plastic 10".
Cheers
Michael.

OK. Working on 1330mm chassis, 254mm wide guards, 10x4 rims with 75mm from inside edge to face, and 145/70R10 tyres;
67.5" OAL will give you around 50mm between tyre and chassis
72" OAL will give you around 105mm between tyre and chassis and put the outside of the tyres level with the outside of the guards.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member?
