Add brace to Aluminum A frame trailer
As above, I have a Leonard A frame aluminum trailer with standard triangle hitch, and a hole in its center for wind up lift.
Lift is always too low for places I go, curbs, ditches, etc.
I bought a swivel lift for 1 side of A.
Works fine, but C channel gives (rotates) quite a bit under full load - bottom of channel is forced out, top of channel is forced in, torque from offset of wheel to beam.
I believe a brace would help.
The channel is 4 in high, and 2 in wide.
(I either fully load the trailer [major mower] or no load at all.)
I'm concerned about punching attaching holes or welding in the wide web, or even the narrow flanges.
Would limited welding, only along the narrow flange edge be the safest thing to do? I'm thinking of trimming the narrow flanges of a matching channel to just fit inside existing channel (and fill it) and welding just the 2 narrow edges where they touch on each, top and bottom, left and right.
Or, what would be safest way to add a brace to prevent beam (C channel) rotation in middle of span?
THX!
