Default extending frame of tandem trailer

hi guys im new here ,

i have a question for your guys , i have a 9x6 box trailer galavanised , im going to remove the box section so ill be left with a rolling chassis 50x50x2.5

now i want to extend my chassis by about 500 in the front and rear , i do not want to weld to it , i was thinking of sliding a 45x45 section (solid cause there is no shs)into the 50x50 chassi and bolting it and then slide a 50 x 50 x 2.5 shs on the 45x45 and bolting it together , do you guys think that this will work as in these sections will fit into one another easily?

Know I can buy some shs locally that will slide into 50 x 50 x 2 mm. Dont recall trying it with 2.5. Its not cheap, but you wouldnt need a great deal. Easier than Drilling solid.

Of course its usually the weld inside shs that makes telscoping a bugger. From memory this shs I am on about is ERW (no daggy weld inside)
If you can access it then I would clamp somthing sold to help keep the lot straight.
For my money I would weld over bolting.

After you've remove the sides, what will you be doing to strengthen the 50x50x2.5 chassis?
    Cheers

If it was mine I would consider strengthing it so it could handle a reasonable payload. Makes it more useable for other applications
you havent even considered yet. But thats just me.
