My EV did not come with a spare wheel so I have purchased a space saver wheel that only comes with me in the vehicle when I leave the city.
If no more than three people are in the car the spare easily fits upright behind the drivers seat.
There's also room in the hatch back for it but as I often travel with 2 dogs there's not enough room for all 3..

For longer country drives I have been thinking of making an external tyre mount/bracket that can attach to the tow receiver and hinges out of the way to access the hatch.
I know it will impact the car's aerodynamics and affect the battery range but if I don't make one and try it out I'll never know what the impact will be.
I understand I will need an auxiliary number plate but that's OK I am prepared to cough up for that.

Strength wise, I'll get my ally boat builder BIL to do all the welding so I am not worried about that.

Just wondering if anyone has made or maybe bought one and what the pitfalls etc might be.
Maybe show some photos?

BTW vehicle towing capacity is 1800kg, tow hitch rating is 1600kg. I think towball downforce rating is 100kg.

Thanks
