Default Finally got around to my draw bar and hitch modification.

Well I finally got around to modifying the draw bar and hitch on my trailer. Got up at 6:00am yesterday morning and got it done before work. The whole job took me 4hrs, which I thought was ok.

I love how I can now open up the back door on the car without increasing the size of the hitch dent.

I plan to raise the tub up by 3" as well. I might get a go at that on the weekend.

I'll finish the wiring extension this weekend too, and also fit a decent jockey wheel.

    Looks great Foss.

I too have to be careful with some trailer couplings and my Pajero rear door.

    Thanks Yonnee.

I am liking the longer drawbar for backing up too. I have had trailers for more than 30 years, and I wouldn't consider myself a slouch at backing into any obscure situation.... but.... my old back appreciates having a trailer that I can back up using mirrors only, and isn't too twitchy, if you know what i mean.

I haven't been on the boards for a while. What's happened that that they made you moderator!

Man.... scraping the bottom of the barrel the I think.

Nice job. Was it done purely for the rear door opening or is there some other reason for this type of hitch?

This type of hitch is quite favoured by 4WD enthusiasts as it allows a great deal more articulation than a standard ball coupling. While a ball coupling gives you less than 30deg. in both vertical travel and longitudinal twist, this coupling will allow movement in excess of 180deg. vertically, and rotate a full 360deg. Their only drawback is they require pinpoint precision to hook up the connecting pin, so unlike a standard coupling where you can reverse up near enough, and lower the coupling down and it will locate itself onto the ball, these need to line up fairly accurately so that the pin can be inserted.

Or making a brand new drawbar on your caravan to clear the rear door on your NM Pajero, only to screw up by 60mm

    Neat work BTW Fossil.
