Look, it's old tech, as I said.
It hasn't done badly at all but could've done better.
Take the trailer to a brake place, outline the prob and insist that they do better.
Where are you ATM?Cheers, Ern

Firstly, centralising isn't something you can feel much of a change to make a difference. In most cases, it's the first thing I do and give it another test run. In some cases it can be the adjustment that fixes the issue more than the centralising. But you'll see the locating tabs on the welded mount plate that locate the backing plate during assembly, but they aren't an exact fit to the hole in the backing plate, and therefore can cause braking issues.
My other concern is the amount of grease present on the magnet.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Why not? click here to register. grease all over the magnet seems dodgey as to me. surely it's only a matter of time until it gets to the linings?
do you know if it could have any effect on the performance of the magnet?

It certainly could, especially when combined with brake dust, it would become like a paste and instead of gliding over the surface of the drum, it would tend to want to stick to it. And then the brake being out of adjustment could cause the locking.

I don't think that any grease should be present in the brake workings, get rid of it and clean it out well.
