    Default Need some Help!

I'm new to this forum and would like to say hi and thanks for letting me part of the discussions. A little about myself. I'm a Married man have 3 children who are all grown and out of the house. I'm the lead Product Design Engineer for a local bearing Manufacturer. I spend my day's designing bearings and when I'm home I like to tinker with new design and build projects. I currently use Autodesk Inventor 2012 Suite for my engineering software. If you all need anything modeled up I'm sure we can barter.

My latest idea is that I decided to build my own Utility Trailer I was thinking it would be a an 8 x12. I was looking for a 3D model of an axle with leaf springs and hangers, but could not find one with leaf springs. Does anyone have a 3D model of an axle assembly? I would be forever grateful.

Also any help or advice on my new project. I always like to get as much info as I can before jumping into a new project. Idea's on weather this should be a single or tandem axle. Should I include brakes for the wheels?

Hi SG, welcome to the forum!
I wouldn't know where to find a 3D model of an axle. If I really wanted one all I would try is Google, yet wouldn't even attempt to build one. They are rather cheap ready made.

As far as brake or no brakes, it all depends on your local regulations. In the US you get away with no brakes with rather large trailers, we need brakes on anything carrying over 700 kilos.
I bought a boat from the US on a trailer and had to fit brakes and change the coupling to pass registration.
8x12 is massive ... that is 2.4m x 3.6m definitely dual axle and brakes if you want to carry a ton or more.
What are you going to tow it with?

Thanks for responding Marc, I only wanted a 3D model of the axle so I can finish my design. I was not going to try and design one. That would cost way more than buying a trailer already to go. I can buy a set of axles with brakes and leaf springs for under $500. I'm currently waiting for a response from the axle manufacturer on whether they have a 3d model of their axle, hopefully they reply with a response soon.

I planned on using the trailer for many things hauling wood, furniture, riding lawnmower ect ect. I know from experience how a small trailer doesn't have enough room for some of the things I may need to haul, especially wood the more I can haul at one time the least amount of fuel I will have to pay for for return trips to the forest.

I currently have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with a tow package,it has a 300hp inline 4.2L 6 cylinder engine. I use it to tow our 26ft Camper Trailer and it pulls it but does work a little bit. I just added a trans cooler which will help keep the drive line from overheating.
