Iggsy's Buggy Build
Hello,
I showed a picture of the buggy I have been building on the machining section of the forum, and was asked to put a couple more photos up. Hopefully this is the right section to post a few photos of the things I have built to get it at the stage it is at today.
This buggy is heavily based on a design by "The Edge Products". Australian company, no affiliation, just a satisfied customer. They sell plans, ketsets and parts etc, so if you ever want to have a go at building one of these google them.
This is the second buggy I have built. The first was a "Barracuda" built to edge plans. Unfortunately I got bored with it as there was not to many places to drive it and I didn't know anyone else to drive with. There were no local clubs that would allow these to race as per edge plans. I decided to build a second CAMS (governing body for motorsport) complient version so I could join the offroad racing scene.
1st Buggy I built to edge plans. It looks a bit ugly because I never got around to getting it painted properly before I built the second.
Current Cams spec buggy. I will be able to race in the prolite class when it is finished.
A selection of the CAD models I used to build it.
Fabricating the frame.

Had to split up the posts to get all of the photos in.
Fabricating the swing arm components.
Some aluminium work. Making a fuel tank and modifying the engine sump pan into a low profile version.
Fabricating the exhaust headers.
Some laser cut drive components.
Thanks for looking .

That's pretty damned impressive.
Did you bend your own cage up or have that bit done.
Just curious what sort of bender you used.

Thanks mate .
The first buggy I did all my own bending using a hydraulic pipe bender. Google MPB-2SH.
The majority of the material in that buggy is 20 & 25NB pipe.
The second is actually built from a CDS tube (to meet CAMS specs), so I didn't have the correct dies. Rather than buy a new set, I used a company call BendPro with a CNC bender. They were excellent. mm perfect and achieved a tighter radius without deformation than I ever could have gotten.

Looks great! We (a mate and I) are looking to build a buggy each to keep us occupied of a Friday arvo and build it in no rush. We have the edge plans, and was looking to buy the kit and weld it together...
What are the differences between the cams spec and the original? Is it just the steel? Or are other bits necessary as well? I figure we might as well make it to cams spec first off...
Cheers
Dan

- Frame is made from 40mm CDS pipe instead of the ordinary 25NB pipe.
- Requires some extra bracing.
- Some key dimensions that must be met.
- Need to have reverse.
- Bigger wheels.
- Trailing link.
- Bigger Brakes.
You will need a bigger budget to build a cams spec buggy . I don't ever contemplate the idea of adding up the reciepts for mine - I'm better off not knowing the exact figure .

Looks like a cool buggy
My brother and I built on of those Edge Sidewinder buggies ages ago. Took ages to build and cost way way more than what they estimated it would.
Lots of fun though.
What engine does it have in it?

Yeah dude - that looks awesome! Would like a smaller cart for paddock work could not afford this fun machine.
Looks like a Honda Blackbird engine to me ??
