Kayak trailer
I do a bit of fishing from a kayak, and no matter how hard I tried I could not keep sand and salt water off the car. So after a lot of gazing at my old trailer I decided to get to it with a grinder and a welder to make it suit the kayak. The trailer is small (4 x 3) and had a really short draw bar – the old hitch was 1 7/8” - so I needed to extend the draw bar and put a 50mm hitch onto it.
I set it up with a rear roller system (wheels off a supercheap hand trolley) so that rolling the kayak on and off the trailer is a breeze.
Here it is – before and after!

Looks a good solution
However, I recall other posts discussing the allowable overhang for loads carried on a trailer -- I can't recall the details, but it would pay to checkregards from Alberta, Canada

In South Australia, if you carry a copy of this document, you can have a canoe, row boat or kayak overhang a trailer more than 1.2M.
I think in most other states the limit is 1.0 or 1.2M overhang.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Why not? click here to register. That is 'stage 2' The side panels will still fit as is - all I need to do is chop a bit off the front and rear panels to sit on the new rails and it will be done. I did find one minor problem today - the roller system works too well and the kayak wanted to slide off the trailer - regardless of how tight I had the straps. The minor strap reposition and the addition of a front strap will fix that hiccup
