Legalities over plywood floors
Hi everyone I am just about to finish off my trailer to take over the pits and get rego'd but I have a question regarding plywood floors.
The trailer itself is going to be used for a bandsaw mill so it does really need a floor as it is build around the mills dimensions but I just want to have one there so when I am milling all the dust doesn't get stuck between springs, or pile up on the ground for easy clean up.
Does anyone here know about the legalities? the reason I ask for plywood is because I have a small stockpile of marine ply available to me but no steel plate only 1.2mm galv sheet wich would work but I would rather something thicker if Im going down the steel path.

Hi Jordan. There are no specific requirements in the VSB1 Trailer Regulations that state what materials a trailer must be built with. And there's no even a requirement for a trailer to even have a floor. So plywood away.

Inspector at welshpool didn't blink at my plywood floor. He even put down the colour as silver instead of brown rust when I told him It was going to get hot dip galvanised. It is so much easier to replace a wooden floor.

why not cover the ply floor with the galv sheet...would save a lot of gouges and make the ply last a bit longer. I have an old trailer that has wooden side & ends and no probs with rego

I think you'd find problems with moisture (even just condensation) sitting between the metal and the timber floor.

Give it a good coating of Silastic. In between the ply and the sheet does the trick, ideal for work benches where grease, oils etc are present also, worked in a mechanics shop for a few years where this was done. Originally Posted by murray44

Interesting topic, most caravans use marine ply for the floor of the vans and it only seems to be coated in paint. Can't see why you would have a problem on the rego side.
