    Default Olive needed ?

Hi Chaps, Can anyone tell me if there is suppose to be an olive between the flare on the bundy tube and the connection on the master cylinder at the coupler. It never came with one and the blokes at the shop never mentioned needing one (no surprise there).
    Cheers.

Brake and clutch hydraulic lines tend not to have olives on their fittings; they are usually flared on the tube ends.

You shouldn't need one, as the flare on the tube is typically double flared.

    Hey there,

From my experience, in the Trade (Motor Mechanic in an Earlier Lifetime) there are no Olives on Brake and Clutch Lines, always Double Flares. But I might be wrong. (wouldn't be the First Time, and definitely not the Last), I'm a Man{ we're never right, Apparently},

Olives are typically used where there is no flare in the bundy tube.

The one thing to look out for is the taper at the bottom of the hole. Trailer master cylinders have a concave taper at the bottom for a ball flare, and the bundy tube to suit should have a long tube nut with a single or ball flare in the tube at one end. However, there are some that put a brass adapter into the master cylinder that has a nipple in the bottom to accomodate a double flare.

    OK, Thanks All.
On closer look the master cylinder does have a concave taper in the bottom.
The bundy tube was pre flared for me with one end with a long tube nut and what must be a ball flare.
The other end has a normal looking flare for connection to the brake hose.
    Thanks again.
