Just what I was thinking Jeremy... since Ive no idea where to get "pitch" from and have already had a nightmare experience with sillycone was thinking of pox and maybe even glass it? Anyways for now this is what I have

    1) finally off the stands and on its own wheels

2 through 4) Behind the 4x4 to give perspective of height

    5) being parked up

    6 & 7) Present camper setup behind the 4x4

    8) Parked up next to new subframe

9 & 10) Show the INCREASE in height the new subframe will give

Next job is to get the son-in-law to come out tomorrow arvo so we can hook the new subframe onto the 4x4 and he can follow me around the back streets to see how she rides... STRAIGHT AND TRUE!!! ... one hopes Then its simply a couple of plates on the ends of the longitudals and then onto fitting the camper to it

The increase in height is astounding it will lift it somewhere around 8in above its present height... while the new subframe sits level with the car and will do even with the extra 2ft of the kitchen fitted on the bum end... although in the photos it looks like the back end is higher than the front its actually near dead level which is what I was hoping for

oooh and yes I do need to whack a bit more of that galvanising paint on it... then a coat of some sort of vehicle paint but Im gonna wait till the campers on it before I do that as Im thinking of painting the whole thing another color... pindan red probably save on cleaning!!

    SO!!!

All thanks to you blokes for your help and assistance with this... As I said back in the begining I have never considered doing anything like this before and was worried due to a stupid young fellas comments regarding geometry and "getting things dead right and not being able to do it so better get another trailer"... but all in all its gone together very simply and very easily so THANKS A BLOODY HEEP FELLAS!!! I definantly owe you a beer or two

Will start new thread when I begin the process of taking of the camper and installing it on the new subframe... probably in about 2 weeks... I MUST DO SOME WOODWORK!! its been a fair while since Ive done any serious woodworking and this has been the catalist and motivation to start again as now I have my old passion for the shed back!

    Cheers
    Shane

ooooh right two MORE weeks... mmmm well me ol cobber it may well be more like another month till its finished

Got young Ben over tonight and went for a quick tour down the roads and byways around here to see how it tracked... he reckoned it was DEAD STRAIGHT all the way no wobbles no crabbing just smooth dead set behind the car... AND the springs worked a treat!! even I saw that yeah well it IS going to go OFF ROAD so why not give it whirl on the first drive? So we did... BOING!!! all good... had a gander at what was entailed in the change over very little in fact simply drill out the pop rivets take of the kitchen slot the camper on the new frame bolt her down reconnect the kitchen run the new lines for the lights (ala Bens role ) and bobs yer uncle

Shame Im seriously thinking about selling this place and buying a Denning motor home eh But Ben and Tiff have offered it a home when I do so I know she will be well used and cared for

    Cheers

Oh thought you said it was two weeks must be WA time a month well life is slow over there. Great work Shane nothing like a trailer you can see in one mirror only scares the shyte out of the oncoming traffic if its drivers side. You get a great laugh when its passenger side watching pedestrians take a giant step back or dive over fences.

Shame Im seriously thinking about selling this place and buying a Denning motor home eh But Ben and Tiff have offered it a home when I do so I know she will be well
Now you talking just make sure you have $$$$$ to fill the tank before heading off next refill 1000k's.

hum I wonder got your eye on one Shane pics please mate here knows his old coach is in WA already fitted out pensioned off just like him but still working the roads of this fine country. Room under for tool's and lathe, a two wheel get up and go faster.

Yeah its slow over here... like 10 years behind every other state ...except Tazzy of course who are 400 years behind us!!!

When I make the wheel arches that will solve the problem... and then theres the new top if one doesnt make the thing show up in the mirrors the ruddy boat on top WILL

Yeah sorta along the lines of pensioning myself off and just going walkabout for a few years grab a job when I need one have a break when I dont ...depends on how much I get "in hand" for this place will need to invest most of it to live off the interest eh! but from what Ive seen in my investigations 50 - 70K would do the trick for the rig stick another 10 in an account for travel money and bobs yer uncle... gets down to 5 and get a job for a month or so build it up again and away one goes!... Ive found I have quite basic needs and have become quite a hotshot at buyin tucker and needs so I reckon I should be right as rain

Im presently working hard on several things that will lead to this happening hopefully Feb March next year... be a right good 52nd birthday pressy to myself as thats hopefully when I can pack everything up stick the excess in storage and just hit the road... One of the things Im planning is doing month about rather than week about this way Josh can get a weeks worth of school work and come with me catch a plane when needed... best of both worlds eh! Either that or just make a couple of long runs during school hols till he leaves in a couple of years while I kick back and just drive the truck till then and when hes ready hit the road!!!

Coach with car trailer big enough for the Prado and a boat on top tagged on the bum and fully self contained would be ideal I reckon looking at the size of the baggage bins on these things theres no reason why a bloke couldnt build a slide in with drop down legs stand for the lathe might have to drop in size for the bandsaw I guess and have to work out how to fit a table saw in there... may even have to forgo some tools but that would be no real issue Id be travelling anyways!!

Was wondering just what I would do with myself when it all comes to an end and the more I think about it the more it fits what I want in life... Some certain people desire money and overseas travel gaudy houses and other such while Im more into the simple life... by sticking the bulk away if I feel the need to settle back down and buy another place then the deposit is there... or just wander over to Tazzy and by a whole town!!

Anyway the germ of the idea is there and sprouting just a matter of watering it gentle gentle and things will happen as they must.

    Cheers
    Shane

But stoked? TOO FRIGGIN RIGHT I AM!!... hell even if it doesnt for some reason or other fit the camper I DONT GIVE A FIG!!! Its done its brilliant and by god I DID IT!!! the three kids who have seen it and wandered in and out during the build are totally PROUD as buggary with me... and thats just as good as me own pride in me own efforts

But Yonnee? You need to give yerself a good thump on the back and shake yer own hand mate without you and the other bods here givin me a hand I dont doubt I would have thrown me hands up and given up before I began... thats how low my confidence had gotten now Im back to bein me!! Anytime mate!

And if this walkabout thing happens, and one of your destinations is Tassie, if you happen to be sight seein' the Penguins at Phillip Island on the way through, drop us a line. Cause you'd be pretty much goin' right past my front door. The Sports Club's just down the road, you could shout me that beer.

mmm Id sorta forgotten all about the trailer... well... Im sittin in New Jersey USA right now so its gonna be a while before I get back to it but... to update (till I left Aus that is)

Ben and I got stuck in and took the camper of its pathetic subframe and bunged it on the new frame... but it didnt work out cause the damned camper fell to bits but it stayed sorta kinda maybe a little attached till I sold the house then WE RIPPED IT OFF!!!

The trailer is at Ben and Tiffs till I work out how Im gonna finish it which IM thinkin will be as a heavy duty type box trailer for them to use after I take back my 8x5 trailer... I reckon everyone should have at least one box trailer and as they dont got one I reckon it will please them no end to get one sooo thats what all my efforts will end up being

Im still not 100% or even 30% sure of what Im gonna end up doing... when I get back present thoughts revolve around a caravan or mobile home something like that and just travel for a few years working here and there... get rid of the stuff Ive hoarded down in Albany at my sisters and just have what I need till I settle again

But boy was making this subframe an adventure!!! Theres a few tools I wont part with and ones the mig!!! man I love that welder

Anyway there we are... so from rainy New Jersey New York USA its ooorrooo from me!!

Ding ol' mate. Good to hear you're still around. Too bad about the camper. She'll make a ripper box trailer though.

And don't forget, that invitation is always open for an ale here at the sports club if you're ever this side of our great country.

And what the heck are you doing hassleing the 'Septic Tanks'??
