One thing I saw the other day was some heavy C section (shaped like C purlins) on a car trailer. Not sure if this can be purchased off the shelf. No great secret that even if one seals up enclosed section (RHS etc..) that the water manages to get in over time.
What I recon appeals in this instance is that any welds can be blasted easily and better prepared than enclosed sections.
A quick hose down can remove a lot of the salt.
Just my 2 bobs worth.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au
I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

I reckon that's probably Duragal Channel, which is readily available.
It should work ok for a light trailer like this one.

Thanks Jatt and Karl, I'll check that out. I've got a box trailer made from heavy angle so was thinking some open section would be great for exactly the reasons you point out, but I was worried that just plain angle would twist too much without a ton of bracing. Jatt if you happen to see that trailer again, can you snap a few photos please?
Thanks

If you do go that way, don't neglect to put a stiffener in to tie the top and bottom flanges together above spring hangers etc.
Channel will definitely twist more than box section, but for your application it will be fine - after all, truck chassis are made from it.
