Default How do you register a trailer in NSW?

Last weekend I bought an old wooden Mirror dinghy for the kids.
It came with a dolly which fits in a 6x4 box trailer and an unregistered boat trailer. It seems the boat trailer hasn't ever been registered, so I don't have paperwork to show RMS.
The RMS website is very unhelpful in describing how you go about registering a trailer - it seems that most of the time the manufacturer or distributor does it and then the buyer takes a transfer of the rego.
Could someone tell me how to go about it?
Also, the trailer doesn't have indicators or stop lights - could I wire them up to a board which would sit on the transom of the boat rather than attaching them to the trailer frame?
Of course if the trailer is too hard to get registered, I could always get a 6x4 box trailer!
    TIA
    Cheers

I know the rta website is pretty useless. Its pretty simple really.I just registered my boat trailer last week all you need to do is make sure you have lights of some sort if that's a light board or attached to the trailer. And take it to a mechanic that does blue slips and he will go over it to make sure it is road worthy and might tell you that you need a couple of reflectors on the sides or back then he signs of on it and gives you the paper work then to go to the rms. rms will want a receipt so say who you brought it from and that's pretty much it. Then you pay for the number plate and rego that's it.

You'll need a VIN number for the trailer as well. If the trailer's more than 26 years old (VIN numbers were standardized in 1987 for all vehicles), then just pick a series of numbers/letters 5 or 6 will do, and stamp them or weld them onto the chassis somewhere, before you take it for blue slip. Otherwise, contact the RMS and they should point you in the direction of getting one. (Although, I had a quick glance at the RMS website and there's a form to fill out for a new trailer to get the numbers, and you poor buggers get stung $60 a year for trailer rego, and then a vehicle tax (into the $$hundreds) on top of that depending on weight..!!!?? What a bunch of thievin' bastards!!)
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!
