Good powder coaters will ask what the intended use of the object is and prepare accordingly.

They use a primer for want of a better word if it's for outdoor use.

Once damaged rust propogates under it.

I asked my powercoater this one as well, his answer was to think about your choice of steel. For example as in the surface coating something is finished in when made. My sheetie folded up some extensions for my trailer. Its been sitting out in the open for a while now, there is surface rust where its been welded and simply cold galled , but the rest is fine.

Now I'm no pro on the subject, but my sheetie uses this same stuff all the time with the knowledge he can leave it for a little while before sending it off to get coated. (cant remember what its called, but a fone call can recify that). When asked my powercoater was happy to coat it as is once of course my surface rust around the welds was fixed up.

Of course its bit hard for the likes of RustyArc who are repainting something.

I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.

From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".
