But introduces further points of failure, something else to go wrong, high resistant join, air gaps.
I'm yet to see better substitution for plug with protected lead, that goes all the way to the back of the trailer.
How oftern do peeps hire a trailer, that have these sockets on the drawbar, requiring a 'patch lead' When something doesn't work as it should, you've now doubled the effort in finding the fault. Buy good quality multi core trailer wire, and run as a continuous length from rear to front, with the plug on the front end. Eliminate as many as points of failure as possible and you'll have less trouble with lights.

    Cheers,
    Wahoon.

Maybe you could try using the retraction mechanism from a large tape measure? Make a plastic pocket for the loop of cable to be drawn into (Not wound, just drawn) to keep it all nice and neat when stored.

What is the legal position on converting vehicle lights like the Navara? My impression is you are not allowed to fit non standard components such as tail lights. I want to change the tail lights on my falcon wagon. Too old to buy LED versions. I travel dirt roads and the lights get dirty fast.

I thought about converting to LED but had decided to just fit extra LED strips of suitable colour at both ends to make car far more visible.

Ute had a tray back so lights not an issue. Been through rego check since converting - no issue.

As long as the new taillights comply with the relevent ADR's for the car, there's no reason why you can't replace the originals with LED's.

When I say convert I mean convert existing lights. LED taillights are not available for ED Falcon Wagons last time I checked so the only option is make your own. Hence the problem with legality and the decision to fit extra LED strips to the vehicle.
