Tilt car trailer plans required
Hi Guys, I have been surfing this forum looking for plans for a tilt car trailer. Does anyone have plans they would like to share ? Ideally it would be a flat floor with Low or no sides to enable a car door to be opened whilst on the trailer. A maximum allowable width of 2.5m , a slight drop at the rear to allow for shorter ramps. The trailer should be capable of carrying cars up to 2 tonne so electric brakes are a must. Material sizes & design are what I am mainly chasing. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hey John welcome aboard.
I haven't seen too many plans as such for tilt trailers on here. Those that are pretty handy with the welder have usually seen some ideas used elsewhere and then come up with their own version that suits them. Here's my take on tilt trailers...
They have more moving parts than a conventional trailer, therefore require a bit more maintenance and thought put into the build. They also require a bit more bracing for the drawbar, and subsequently they're a bit heavier than an identical non-tilt trailer. For a car trailer, their only real advantage is to eliminate ramps.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Why not? click here to register. Instead of a tilt trailer I have seen one made that used torsion axles to get the tray as low as possible so there was minimal height. It was made so that the owner could drive his lowered MG's straight on with no problems.
Have a nice day - Cheers

Additional changes such as 13" rims and 155R13 light truck tyres will keep the height lower too. I built a tandem car carrier for a mate of mine with a Mazda 1300 race car and it ran Melbourne Trailers Knee Suspension (see Group 39) with a 4" drop stub. The drop stub puts the centre of the wheels pretty much level with the chassis, as does the "Lowline" option on Al-Ko's rubber suspension.

Hi Guys,
Yep, I had a car trailer with alco suspension, it was excellent and towed very well. I want to use existing 2.5 tonne electric brake axles that I took of my RV. They are straight and use landcruiser rims so tilt is a must. I may even get away with a single axle trailer. I have never towed a single axle car trailer so I am not sure how it would handle ??
