    Default Tilt Trailer

Have a need for a bigger better trailer. Have thought about an 8 X 4' 6" tilt trailer. Yeah, I know the width is unusual but it suits me being that width. Little more width than a 6 X 4 but easier to store than a 5'. I want a multi purpose unit. Furniture removal, maybe move some machinery and the ability to quickly dump rubbish. Have a 12V hydaulic pump which sould be ok to use for the ram etc. Want single braked axle with about 2000KG capacity. Building a normal trailer should be easy but I am a bit stumped when it comes to a tilting type. Anyone want to give me a few ideas?

    Thanks

Better add a few more details. Trailer will be a box and have a cage added later. Tilt has to cope with a situation where some machinery may need to be winched onto the trailer and later rolled off again. I also need to be able to easily load the 1 tonne hydraulic pallet lifter I have onto the trailer which weighs 300Kg.

For a tilting trailer to be effective, particularly for loading, you need it as low as possible. But with 2000Kg capacity on single axle, you're going to require 12" Electric or 11" Hydraulic brakes. Not only are these a fair bit dearer than 9" Hyd. or 10" Elec., they require Off-road wheels with a minimum of 15" diameter, and a minimum centre bore size of 100mm. Tyres rated to 1000Kg aren't going to be exactly low profile either.

I would recommend a 1600Kg Parallel axle, as there are drums to suit 10" Electric (Dexter also do a 10" Hydraulic if you so desire). You still need a rim with a bore size bigger than most passenger cars, but there are heaps of 6 stud commercial vehicles running 14" rims at the wreckers, or look for rims on ebay.
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!
