Default Trailer - tyre to guard clearance.

Hello, I have a 10 year old 7 x 4 foot trailer. It was a "heavy duty" one when built and has a 45mm square axle and 7 leaf slipper springs. I would like to upgrade the 14" wheels to 16" and would like to know if there is a way to measure the suspension travel to see if the guards have enough clearance for the larger wheels. Or is there a standard min clearance measurement that applys?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Wlecome aboard Lisney.

For a box trailer, I usually allow 3" (75mm) clearance between top of tyre and guard. But it comes down to what suits what trailer. The most your suspension will ever move is the gap between the axle and chassis rail (assuming the axle is not underslung). So there's no need to have any more than this.
