Truck Tray Rebuild - Do you know someone who can? (Sydney Region)
G'Day Everyone.
I have a Mazda T4000 1995 tray top truck with a severely rusted out tray that needs new sheet and welding. Measuring 2.50M x 4.20M.
I can remove the existing top and leave the shell for the new sheet to be welded on.
I was hoping to find a fabricator/hobby engineer willing to take on the job in the Sydney region.
I'm willing to pay cash, at price we can agree on. I would supply sheet metal and deliver truck to where work was to be undertaken.
Any thoughts or recommendations on who would be willing to take on the task would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading!

A couple of questions spring to mind. 1/ If the floor is so badly rusted, what is the condition of the subframe? 2/ Why is the tray so badly rusted? It's fairly unusual to see a tray rusted out unless it has been carting really corrosive substances or in the case of farm trucks, has had last years leftover grain growing in it.
My reason for asking firstly is that a ratty subframe will turn this from an easy job to a less straightforward undertaking. Secondly, it would be nice to prevent or at least minimise the corrosion of your new floor. In fact, sometimes a timber floor is a better option because of this.
Whoever takes the job on will most likely want the tray off if at all possible as this will make work so much easier.

I'm with Karl.
When we redid the old boys tray (would have to be at least 4 mtr long) replaced the old timber with some good straight secondhand hardwood.
From memory tray originally belonged to an 82 model. Going on the condition of it, recon it was the original wood. Didnt go crazy wrt to the thickness of it, just have to be a bit mindful of positioning heavy point loads, stuff like tractors etc.... In saying that tho, we have put and dropped tonnes of stuff like heavy logs on it and is holding up fine.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au
I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".
