    Default Ultralight Boat Trailer Build

Further to this post https://www.woodworkforums.com/f184/u...terial-103417/ I have finally finished the trailer and thought a quick build description wouldn't go astray.

Marked out on the concrete using string lines

Cut RHS and lay out basic frame on lines

Weld out and fit suspension unit

Welded, cold gal with mudguards fitted.

Finished with boat on ready to go

BTW - I cut the drawbar length down about 700mm in the finished version

    Approx Cost
    RHS - $80
    Suspension - Free
    Mudguard - Free
    Slide Timber - Free
    PTFE Rub strip - $22
    Keel Rollers - $50
    Bow Rubber - $10
    Light Bar - $55
    Tinny - $450
    Merc - $600

    So $215 for the trailer
    $1050 for the boat
That's some cheap boating Wish the 15' glass boat was that cheap - I have driven it over 240km in the last 3 weeks dragging marlin skirts to only catch dolphin fish and a striped tuna

    And of course....

The little fella with the first fish he has caught unaided!

    Nice one Ben.

What's the suspension unit from. I'm guessing a FWD of some sort? Although the only vehicles I can think of running a large 4 stud pattern and with wheels like that are either an early Subaru, or VW... Am I close?

Yep, early 80's subaru used a torsion bar arangement for the rear. The 2wd's just had the beam and arms making an easy fitment. It is a little bit bouncy but I figured even 500kg leaf springs would be too.

a bit bouncy...hmmm... have you tried letting the tyres down a bit.

My northern bro'inlaw has a 10' tinny on a light trailer and even at 20Lb the tyres still stand up.....if he puts too much preasure in the tyres it bounces all over the place.

    cheers
