Looks like we are going to have a live band at the next Blue Mountains GTG. You wont have to solo now John.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Turned a very simple end-cap today.
It will be held by cork lapping like the tenon socket.
It is significantly lighter because it's had much less oil to drink!

Still have to finalise tuning, finishing and cork lapping

Fascinating post Vaughan, thanks so much for explaining what is required and the showing the final result.
Have you tried any other Australian woods? As I occassionally offer wood to woodwind makers I am am interested in the qualities in the wood that make a good instrument (ie tone, ease of working finishing etc).
About 15 years ago I had a shakuhachi flute made for a niece (from waddywood) by a Victorian flute maker. It was the hardest densest rarest and was a dark purple wood that I had). I'm not in a position to judge its musical quality as an instrument though. I suspect it is more a curiosity now.
Thanks again Vaughan. I wish you lots of success playing your Burdekin Plum flute.

I totally missed this thread Vaughan but hopefully won't miss the live band at the next GTG.... Cheers, Peter
PS - How's the little bench for your daughter coming along?
