Default Trade exotic blanks for flute.....

Hi There...... i was wondering if there was anyone whom will make me a flute......

I'll provide the blank for the flute....... in addition, i'll send a piece of Jichimu as payment.....???

A blank of jichimu 5" cost about USD$50-$75.... so i guess a flute would be at least 18" long right?? Im not too sure about the dimension..... would appreciate some input so that i can prepare the blanks..... in addition, please do let me know the dimensions require to make a flute ..........

    Thank you so much....

    Regards,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
you'll need to be a little more specific about the key you want and in how many pieces before you can get an estimate of how long your blank needs to be. If you have a blank of a certain length already, you might get a suggestion about which key you might get out of it.

For a single piece G flute you will need about 18". It would probably be better if you made it (or any other flute) in two or more pieces so as to have a tuning slide. Add another inch for that.
A full size C flute would need about 30" and need to be made in two parts and then would be difficult to play because of the finger stretch required. The usual method is to make an oversize D flute in 3 pieces and add a couple of keys for the C# and C. A picollo size C only needs half of that, about a 15" blank.
A common key to make and play is D, you'd want 26" for a two piece there.

I think the D flute would be the most appropraite and most common if thats the case......now..... the problem would be......Is there anyone willing to make that flute for me?? i'll send enough timber to make 4 flutes......2 of course...for myself.....

    The blanks would be Jichimu.....

    Any takers??

    Gary

If your still keen I'd possibly be interested in making you a flute, but I'd love to see a sample of the wood first before I make you a flute, I would need to be really attracted to the wood to say yes as we have so many lovely woods suitable here already. The other possibility is a custom order which I'll PM you details about due to forum rules.

    Cheers

Very interested, I will make you a Shakuhachi in exchange for 4 x blanks of that fine chicken-wing wood : )

    1. You will have to cover post both ways
    2. The key of the flute is erelevant, aspect ratio bore D x WT x L will dictate the final result, Shaku makers describe this form as Jinashikan
    3. Look forward to the project if you are happy with barter.
