Default 250 ton Eucalyptus log home

    Hi Guys
If this forum is about heavy things, does a 250 ton Eucalyptus log home qualify?
I have totally single handedly (ok my wife did help me a bit) built a log home in South Africa, including all the furniture, kitchen cupboards (chipboard is totally BANNED in this house), staircases, plumbing, electrics, finishes, etc - the works.
I used E. Saligna / Grandis hybrid for the structure, E.Diversicolor (Karri) for the floorboards, E.Cladacaylix (sugar gum) for decks & balconies, which is why I have posted here, knowing that you Aussies have plenty Eucalyptus.
I cut all our floorboards, ceiling boards and dimesional lumber on my own logsaw.
Never had so much fun in my life. Just love working with hard, hard timber (particularly the Karri).
Over here the Eucalypts are considered an alien vegetation have very little value and have to be removed by law, so I have managed to build my house for cash.
Next project will be a slightly bigger workshop and I am busy cutting the ceiling boards for it at the moment and should begin construction early next year.

I am looking about to find out if there is anyone out there that has also built an entire house out of Eucalyptus. Know anyone? Please let me know.

With Euchy in Australia, by the time you got to building the second floor the white ants would have eaten the first.

That is certainly big. A couple of questions if I may.

Have you some more detail on the spiral staircase? I can see some steel brackets. I particularly like the handrail treatment. I am interested as I made a spiral staircase many years ago also using eucalypts (Ironbark and Grey Box.)

Secondly, I was under the impression that you too have termites in SA. Did you have to take precautions or are the termites not too fussed about Aussie timbers?

A very impressive project nevertheless and impressed by SWMBO handling the heavy logs with the chain blocks.

    Regards
    Paul

After all that work, the balcony/veranda looks like a great place to sit with a cold one and watch the sun set.

Very nice job and a home to be proud of.
