2nd Picnic Table
This is just my second picnic table. The first was a folding type where 2 x park bench type seats could be reconfigured and have the backs rotated to turn into a table. I made that one over 20 years ago and was such a chore since I made it from red box - almost like working with lumps of steel. It's so heavy that it takes 2 people to move each of the 2 seats. It still looks like new after 20 years !
My latest one is just made from pine, the plans were from here: Picnic Table Design 101
The great thing is that there are no cross braces, making for much more leg room. It's a great table, super strong and looks pretty good too.
Oh, I made the bench seat in the background as well. The seat is technically not very good - didn't do so well on the design of the legs. I've since added a few extra braces to strengthen it. Cyprus for the seat frame, left over merbou (from a deck I built) for the seat and left over pine for the rest.
P.S. All done with hand tools, Japanese Saw for all the cutting

Nice one.
I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder.

I know this is an old thread, but I really like this table and want to make one myself. I'm fairly new to the whole woodworking thing (never done any outdoor furniture, just a workbench and some minor indoor stuff), I'm just wondering, if making this from pine (like this one was) what would you coat it with? Would it be treated, or untreated pine? Any tips for a newbie wanting to do this would be appreciated .
Thanks in advance.

Looks like Roland's was made from treated pine so no need to do anything with it unless you don't like the colour in which case you could stain it with one of the outdoor stains.
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan
