6 foot mirror frame
Hi guys,
Looking to make the trouble & strife a nice full length mirror for the bedroom wall. What timber would you recommend for the frame & what product would you suggest I finish it with ?
Many thanks in advance.

I have seen some really nice mirrors out of Australian Red Cedar. A few coats of Tung Oil and 1 final coat of uBeaut traditinal wax would be mighty fine.

I am making one at the moment out of silky oak 1200 x 350 mirror, frame 40 x 25mm with M & T joints for the 5mm thick mirror. One of the long pieces was bowed by about 4 mm, and I am a bit reluctant to put the mirror in in case it cracks when I put a backing board on it.
The message here is make sure all your frame pieces are dead straight on all sides before assembling the frame
Good luck with it, and please post some picsregards,
Dengy

My progress photos
Sorry I was in too much of a hurry making the mortice and tenon jig and joints and assembling the frame that I forgot to take photos, but here they are for the routing of the edges of the frame, prior to sanding and coating with Danish Oil.
Got some good news today - found my work bench top has quite a sag, so put the frame on our granite kitchen bench top, and the sag is hardly noticeable. With the mirror in position, there was no sag at all.
The frame is pretty square, with the difference in the 1330 long external diagonals being just 1mm
Would anyone please care to indicate how many coats of Danish Oil are required for a silky oak frame?regards,
Dengy
