Ok, seeing as someone dug this thread up why not...

Half completed dining table (8 seater) boards are just laid out on top of the completed frame. Am thinking breadboard ends and was hoping to use a sliding dovetail join linking them (at the exterior).

    cheers.

Sounds and looks very nice Brett. That Redgum will come up a treat with some finish on it. Keep the photos coming.

Im hoping to start a cover for the camper next weekend... this will be 8x4 for the camper proper plus 2x4 for the kitchen that attaches to the rear... sides 18in... present thinking is to either strip plank it or use marine ply and veneer as I have a quite a few long lengths of veneer that would look ace

The ply would be the easiest I think... though by the time Ive done some marquetry on the top and sides I may rue that thought

Idea is to make the top so that when I pull up to camp I can undo it and lift it off and there is either an instant table or a bed if needed and the small one would be ideal for a kitchen/camp prep table... so Im hoping to keep it light and easily moved by one ala me or me and a couple of nippers when camping... I think given my wood stacks that strip planking would end up being way to heavy for that caper... but I havent decided as yet.

I am also planning on having built a bar by Chrissy... present demand is for 9ft long x 22in wide x 3ft 6in high front Jarrah top Sheoak with a Tuart footrail but Im trying to convince my son in law that he does NOT need such a big bar!! Gonna take a friggin crane to move the thing!

Theres the dining table I want to make for myself... and a workbench for little Lukas along with a ride in dump truck... and a jewlery box for Bethany and Brie all to be done by Chrissy dont think Im gonna make it with all of them

Then there is also the pergalla plus deck I gotta build on the back of this place and a verandah for the front but Im also thinking of just selling the place and moving on so the juries still out on that one

    Cheers

G'day Claw Hama, (or is that the craw not the craw),
I'm working on this slab for a lady who wants a new island bench top. The timber is old Greybox slabbed from a log I saved from my father in laws burn pile. The widest part of the slab is 1470mm with the narrowest being 790mm. It's 50mm thick and will be 1800mm long once completed. It's been dressed with the Lucas planing blade. It's currently on a stand in our converted carport (the wife's not happy) and I'm in the process of filling the large holes with epoxy. It takes 4 blokes to lift it. I think I'll have to get a small crane installed in the new shed if I'm gunna do anymore of this type of work.

Always wanted to do a big plank top spanish style dining table out of 3in x 10in oregon for the top and 5in x 3in for base.

it's all in my head. it will bolt together but in a way as to have a spanish/industrial/contemporary feel.

    Question

Do you mean big as in the amount of material that goes into it ie; a new fence or a pool deck or big as in the amount of labour that goes into it ie; a very ornate chess set or a parquetry coffee table?
    Other wise a "big job"

PIC, Physically big, as in anything biger than a beer carton.

Nice slab Willbrook, old dry box, would be more than a little hard, I wouldn't
like to be you plane blade.

    Lightbulb

As in anything that takes more than one man to lift like a full sized tournanment snooker table or a concert grand piano. That makes sense

They would rate, yes, all bigger than a carton of beer.

Or to put is another way. A dog kennel for a Great Dane would qualify as big stuff; but a dog kennel for a Chihuahua, probably not.
Would that be a fair yardstick to go on?

BTW the Stevenson Screen I am building would be far bigger than a carton of beer

PIC, you've nailed the concept, if ya dog can be packed into beer carton his dog house isn't eligable, unless it's two story and has room for his dog mates and bitches.

Gumred, that is a sweet piece of Red man and yes it won't fit in a beer carton. More pictures of the end product would be good. Is it going in your kitchen or is this work?

    Default Single Bed

Made a single bed frame for $20, most of the timber was recycled from our local garbage dump. 70 X 45 mm rails and 90 X 45mm posts. All slats were recycled hardwood. Had a little flat area on top of the headboard to put stuff. For a 14 year old boy so I thought I better make it fairly strong. Will post a photo when I get one of it again.

I'm currently working on a ceiling to wall bookcase. It's going to be around 3 meters in height and about 5 meters in width. This is the first... should I say big? Nope. I'll say HUGEEEE project that I'm undertaking. Hope I don't stuff up . I've wanted such a bookcase for years and now that I know enough about woodworking to get by, I thought, hey I'll give it a go!
