Default Aussie contact to convert straight blades to spiral cutterhead

    Hey folks
I was talking to someone recently who recalled a local Aussie engineering company or similar who will fabricate a spiral cutterhead for any planer/thicknesser. They thought the person company was in NSW somewhere but can't remember the person or dig up the contact. SO I"m reaching out here to find out if this vague recount rings any bells or if anyone knows someone in Australia who can do it. (I know you can buy them from the US but am looking for someone this side of the pond). All help much appreciated. Thanks

I don't know that they can fabricate for anything, but these guys distribute shelix and CTS cutterheads, which cover most machines - they may be able to help with unusual sizes? Spiral Cutter blocks - Helical Cutter Blocks

If you can't buy one off the shelf it will not be practical unless you are a business or do not mind spending $3-4,500.00

He supplied heads for both out jointer and thicknesser at work many years ago. He doesn't actually make them, just the local distributor.

If their stock range doesn't suit, he can have a custom head made up by Byrd in the US, but be prepared to pay through the nose and wait a while for it. Our thicknesser was a custom job and cost $5k and 3 months wait (apparently their US factory had a big order on the go, but this was not communicated to him until after several emails asking for a progress report/ETA). They also managed to get it wrong despite my sending a clearly dimensioned drawing, fortunately the wrong bits were big, rather than small, so we had it corrected at a local engineering shop and got the cost deducted from the cost of the head.

I must say that Rob was great throughout the whole process and it was entirely not his fault, he was just left with their mess to clean up.

Despite all that, it was one of the best investments we made.

If you can't find a supplier in Oz then contact Holbren in the US, I bought one from them and their service was excellent but be prepared to wait as I believe they custom build to order in the US.
