If he falls out he'll hurt himself
If he sits bolt upright at night he'll do his forehead in

I'd be curious to hear what the lady friends say about it when they first see it

The centre support is in place; I used some knock-down hardware to hold it. The fixing plates I rebated into the head and foot boards. I set the centre support about 2mm higher than the cleats on the sides.

Ah, so this is what's been distracting from the bench!

Regarding the timber, I still have a few bits of what was described to me as 'Pacific Rimu' which is identical to this. I was given to understand it came from Fiji originally, and plantation grown.

Is that to cut down on the naughtiness as they will roll to the outsides

Looks great Groggy. That timber, whatever it is, is very stunning.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Right, all disassembled and ready for the road. First light tomorrow load the ute, weatherproof the load then off up the Hume. Last coats of Minwax went on tonight. One final coat may go on in Sydney depending on how it travels.

Done and dusted. Left yesterday at 10:30 and arrived at 8:30. Unloaded and assembled the bed, quick bite to eat, fold and stow tarps and gear then hit the road again. Few hours snooze at dawn to avoid the Kamikaze Kangaroos and got back home about 11:00.

Just hope the young bloke doesn't forget the higher altitude and roll out of bed - he might need to fit some air bags.

Gee, that feels homely. When I was a young lad I had the upper of two bunks in my room with a desk parked underneath for space reasons. Surpisingly practical. Great work G.
