    Default Inside

And thanks to this site and all the guys commenting on my work. Without this support the table would be of much less quality.

some more pics inside ( Looking at the table makes my vision clearer of the home it needs to occupy . . .)

I like the initials on the ends of the table. Apart from 'King", do they have any significance? Also how did you do them?

Its the initial of my family name. Rankin. But I like it because it can also mean many other things, dont know about Rex though, unless I carved out a roman R and gilded it. Maybe on the next one.

I used a piece of the same blackwood as the table that had a white patch on it, then used the plane to shave off a heap of strips of the pale wood. I used this wood as the inlay or veneer, then simply cut out the R shape in the table and glued in the pale wood. I like a bit of marquetry, and this bit worked out quite well.

Ill get a better photo of the table up soon, as the iPad camera doesnt do a good job.

    Thanks. It looks good.

Assuming that the actual table was not shaved at that point, and the veneer is a little bit proud of the surface. How did you get a level surface at that point - with the build-up of sealer around the area? Or did it just not matter?

I got the table flat and sanded to quite smooth with 400 grit, so the table was practically ready to finish. At that point I cut the R shape into the table, using the precut pale wood R shape I had already made. So this R was then a bit proud of the table, so after the glue dried I just sanded it flat with the rest of the table's surface. When the shellac went on, I paid attention to the gaps around the R, filling it up with a thick cut shellac and sanding it back. AFter the whole table had been bodied up with the shellac, the area around the R was flat and smooth,

I hope that helps. It makes the table look personalised. See the next post for some good photos.
