Boxes inside boxes
Well guys I thought its about time I posted something on here so here is my little project I worked on this arvo.
So the story goes, I love camping...
I've bought myself 2 aluminum front opening toolboxes that I have mounted on the back of my ute and I needed some way of organizing all my camping gear within these aluminum toolboxes.
Plastic containers just isn't my style (especially when you do what I do for a living).
2 sheets of 6mm birch ply and a factory full of tools/ equipment and away I go.
I did a quick sketch and did some measurements of what I wanted and made sure all the things I was wanting to put in the boxes could fit.
Then started ripping up the sheets. Next came the mitres because as professional box maker I couldn't help myself. Plus its just easier and looks better, thats a win win situation.

Next was the handles. I wanted to maximize the amount of storage I have in these boxes I opted for a cutout rather than a handle of some sort.
So a quick 2min drawing on the computer and they were ready to cut.

A quick 1.5mm round over bit finished the handle off and a light sand before assembly.

Last but not least titebond 3 glue and some tape and a few headless pins here and there and they were left to dry for tomorrow.

There are 2 larger boxes and 2 smaller boxes in each aluminum toolbox.
Will post a picture up of my design and measurement sheets tomorrow.
Cheers
Dirk.

That is a set of scary looking teeth on that handsaw above the last photo. Do you do dome tree felling with it?
so, how did you cut the holes for the handles?regards,

You didn't consider making the ute boxes too and not just the dividers? Probably just as well. My own effort some while ago was a failure: Quite an expensive failure in fact.

Hey Paul,
Yes I did consider it but for the price I got both the aluminum ones for I wasn't going to make them any cheaper or better.
These boxes are extremely well made and they are fully waterproof and dust proof with the 2x T handles on each box have provision to be locked with a key aswell as a padlock.

I know what you mean (and agree) plus they are probably lightweight in comparison too.
