Looking a bit roogher now as it is off the lathe and has been damped down a few times for the final finishing with the scraper. I've had my orders not to, but I would love to see how the black walnut comes up under french polishing.
Cheers,
Jim

Having just split the top away from the face-plate I was pleasantly surprised how well the glue held. The beads I made it up from are at least thirty years old but have been kept in a dry airtight container. I don't have a glue pot and just use a glass jar inside a saucepan of water.
Cheers,
Jim

With a slight change of plan for one of the tops, I glued up some Elm. Having left a little too much thickness to allow for woof during jointing, the round was too thick, so I gave it a good gouging to get it down to size. The edge oysters are now on, and I hope to get the top oyster veneer started tomorrow.

Woof!
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

The table top is looking really good, I love oyster veneer. Are we expecting any troubles with the edge veneer as/if the wood comes and goes with the weather?
Cheers

First set of spindles for the birdcage done (at my usual speed). Could have done with a minature set of turning tools and/or younger eyesight. Not clones but they'll have to do.
Cheers,
Jim

Nothing wrong with a little variation. If they matched perfectly people might think they were done with a copying attachment.
Next year i want to make a hall stand which will require about 12 or so matching spindles about 50mm long and I have not done any woodturning Steep learing curve coming upI've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan
