Thanks Peter. Good luck with your dozen. The turned sections on these are about 63mm by a max thickness of 21. Enough to make me squint.

A lovely job and nicely burnished too!

Most period multiple turnings I've seen aren't closely matched at all, so I wouldn't worry if you can see small variations. I had a very expensive c.1690 gateleg table years ago and two of the six legs were missing beads.

Picked the tip up from you WW. Used some shavings to burnish. It works amazingly well.

Would you mind emailing Mrs. Wood please and telling her that I do have my uses – occasionally?

Never trust a dog. They're full of mendacity and delight in leading you astray.

For a moment I thought you were going to write 'I want to make a hallway', and was expecting rows of bannisters! The 'stand sounds interesting.

Dropped the birdcage spindles off with BD together with a turned top and picked up some black walnut for the second set of spindles.

I did notice three and a half legs in various stages. Can't complain or I would have to work faster.

BD - Would you mind telling me how thick your oyster veneer segments are ,what type of glue you used and how you clamped them while the glue set .
I have been gluing some end grain tiles 2.5mm thick (oysters I guess) using horse sauce and they cup a lot .

    Cheers

The oysters I stuck on the edge were about that thickness too (the top ones are about 3.2mm). I made sure the cupping was working in my favour with extra size on the outside face, and for ones that were playing up, after re-sizing the outside, I just left them on the roof of the car (when it was in the sun) for a few minutes. Some stuck perfectly on their own, and I just added some masking tape to keep them steady while drying. The more bolshie oysters were clamped with a piece of Poplar cut to the correct curve. I'm using 'Tsar Bond' - old Soviet era horse sauce that I have a supply of. It's fairly sticky, and a I often wander in from the shed with an odd oyster attached to my fingers!

    cheers,
    B-D
