    Default Burl top coffee table

I hope this is big enough to go in the "Big Stuff" section

This one has taken a long time to get to this stage ( about 4 years since I started ), due to many reasons its been a stop - start job.

I got sick of it being in the way in the shed, so I went and bought a new tin of lacquer, and am trying to finish it and get it out of the way.

The top is a slab of Bloodwood burl, it had a few bark inclusions and cracks which I filled with casting resin tinted black.
In these photos it had 2 coats of Nc lacquer, since then it has 5 and looks better.

The base I have made out of Khaya ( African Mahogany ) it also has 2 coats on in these photos.
The rails were attached to the legs with floating tenons.

I have made some buttons out of Cooktown Ironwood to attach the top to the base.
Just need to fit them and its about done.

Impressive. Looks very nice, and I like the joinery on the base.

Having the angled rails is attractive and the slab is great. I'm surprised that you let it gather dust for so long .
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

Thanks Guys, it took a bit of planning, and a few one-off jigs to get the angles happening like I wanted them.

There's a few long stories why it has taken so long, that I wont go into here.
But it will be good to finally have it finished.

After lunch I am heading down to the shed to hopefully finish it off.

The top was flattened with a router with a planing bit mounted on a sled which allows it to travel the length and width of the top.
There have been a few threads on here with different versions of this type of thing.
Then was sanded with a random orbit sander to finish the job.

The top has been secured to the base with said buttons.

I rubbed the top out with 0000 steelwool, then EEE, and finally put some EBeaut traditional wax on. It didnt come up too bad.

Heres a few pics I just took, apologies for the cluttered background.

Next job is to get it up to the house.

    Thanks guys for the comments.

I still have to get it from the shed to the house, which is about 50 meters away, just realized I should have done it yesterday while my son was here.
