    Default cabinet making books

    Hello all,

I am planning on making a bathroom vanity, and if that goes well, I might be interested in making a new kitchen. I am experienced with making wooden toys so I know how to handle tools, but I would like to purchase a book about cabinet making so I can learn the basics and tips for that. However, there are dozens of them... Do you have any tips on which to purchase for an experienced woodworking who is new to cabinet making?

    Thanks,

    Bob

You're a top toymaker Bob so I expect you'll be great at the vanity...
Sorry I'm no help on the book but I'm sure someone will offer a good suggestion or two...
    Cheers, Peter

    Bob,

About 22 years ago I bought a shed and filled it with woodworking tools, despite having zero training or experience.

I bought three or four books. Most were thrown away in a couple of weeks. One has survived until this day, and I just cruised through it again. By my reckoning it is a wonderful book for a beginner/intermediate woodworker.

Here it is ... Cabinetmaking by Time-Life Books

Most of the discards were the woodworking equivalent of "paint by numbers", which I disliked intently. The Time/Life book helped me understand basic cabinetmaking and taught basic skills. The only important thing I did not quite grasp was wood movement, which is likely more my fault than the author's.

The two best things I did as I started woodworking were to buy that book and to join this forum, which has been a goldmine of information and assistance.

I've lost my copy, but this is a good reference for kitchen cabinetry, that would help the competent woodworker with a bathroom vanity as well, I would think... US focused, but he uses euro (concealed) hinges, and it covers lots of minor details from soup to nuts...

Thanks for your help. In the end I ended up reading a lot of online projects to fond the info I needed. In the attachments you can der the progress so far. The corners on the front need to be sanded to the same radius as the sink (35mm). Very heavy so8 need to find a secure way to attach it to the wall. 80cm wide, 66cm high, 45cm deep.
