Default Camphor Laurel, not just for making Chopping Boards

I thought I would share a feature wall that I have just made and installed, I made it out of Camphor Laurel, its a nice timber to work with and smells nice when milling and you can get some interesting grain and colours.

    Here are a few pics

Well done, nice feature. Just oil it and the house will smell nice for years.

Camphor Laurel is a lovely timber. It is great for cabinetmaking.

In Brisbane it now sells for about $6,000 a cube. Pass.

I have seen it advertised at that price, I get mine from the local Woodworking Guild for $1500 M3

    I tried that.

Rang a group on the Sunshine Coast who said they had camphor laurel for sale. When I arrived, hours later, the representative of this group showed me the furniture the group was making and declared me to be competition. He declined to sell me any timber ... even after explaining on the phone he had timber for sale.

If anyone knows of a place near Brisbane where Camphor Laurel can be bought at reasonable prices, please let me know.

I had to join the Woodcrafters Guild (Woodies) based in Montville, (which takes a couple of weeks and a few visits to the Club house), because you have to be a member before you are allowed to buy timber.

Each time you visit the club to use the work benches and facilities it costs $3 and a further $5 if you want to use their woodworking machines, but you have to be accredited for each machine before you are allowed to use them.

It's a great club and everyone I have met thus far are very friendly and helpful.

    Thanks, mate.

But I'm not about to do all that travel to Montville when I have my own shop.

If necessary, I'll continue to live without the camphor laurel.

No problem, the information might be useful for others that live on the coast and don't have their own shop.
