Ah you're a heathen like me I am usually in the workshop barefoot stick the foot out to stop a chisel hitting the floor
    and loosing the edge(ouch).
The panels are looking very good indeed looking forward to the rest of the build.

Well I managed to spend some time in the shed today. Finally sorted out dads old 78 and cut some lovely rabbets for the back panel. Also routed the sliding dovetail for the centre divider (I don't have the tools to do it by hand.) Test fitted it and it was spot on. Have worked out that I am going to put in 5 levels of drawers in a 7,8,9,10,11 inch style, but still three on the top row, two on the others. 20140509_155618.jpg20140509_135717.jpg20140509_141101.jpg

    Hi All,

Final post in this thread, going to start another as a WIP as I can't seem to edit the title.

Wife came into the shed the other day when I was cutting the dovetails and asks "Don't you have a power tool to do that?"

    Women hey?

What do you want the new title of the thread to be?

Well it is very wintery here in Perth, but the child is in daycare which means a whole day in the shed. All the draw rails have now been made for the upper drawers. They are all sliding dovetailed into the sides as the two ends curved a little bit in the weird weather and I thought that this may help hold it all straight.
There were way too many mortice and tennons to do by hand so did the majority on the router table and just did the trickier to set up ones by hand.

The photos show all the bits made up, a test fit of the front - I changed the design a little so that there is now two rows of three drawers and three rows of two drawers.
Last photo is a test fit of the whole upper rail system. (Standing on its side).

Next job is to work out how I am going to do the dustboards. Then I shall glue up the carcass and upper section, then install the lower drawer runners.

A long way to go yet.

Had a little time in the shed today so managed to cut the dust panels out of three mill ply and slot the frames. Did a dry fit to make sure that everything was square (first picture) and then did what I had been dreading - started the glue up. So far just the bottom and sides.

Finally fit the last of the front rails, and the side rails for the dust panels. Noticed after it was all glued and clamped that one of the 28 pieces wasn't slotted. Bugger. Now have to try and put a 3mm slot in it in situ.

A question while I am at it. I only glued the first inch or so of the side rails to allow for movement. When I put in the rear rails, do I glue these to the carcass or only glue the M&T where it attaches to the side rails?

Definitely only glue to the cabinet sides at the front and be prepared for the sides to shrink and grow in relation to the frame.

Have been doing some more work and thankfully the carcass is getting very close. The front of the carcass is complete, planed and scrapped. The ends were a bit tricky as I had to turn it on its side and stand on saw stills to get at it with a plane. It is very heavy and tricky to move around. Both ends are finished at at any rate. Also put a coat of poly on the base so I don't have to turn it over again. The dust boards are all ready to go in, I just want to put a few coats on them first, also want to get the top screwed on before I put them in.
decided to put a 'thingy' across the back of the top ( not sure if there is a name for it) to stop stuff falling down the back. Routed one up and cut a stopped rabbet in the top. Glued that in this arvo so that's where I am at.
