    Default Cigar Box Tables

I'm calling these cigar box tables after the current cigar box boom in luthiery. The first tall skinny one (with the nail gun holes) came about as a way to completely isolate my coffee from the keyboard.
The others naturally followed after and are made with more care.
The base design is after George Nakashima; from the slot joint up is me. The timber is Oregon and Western Red Cedar. Thicknesses are 12mm, 9mm and 8mm. These are very light weight tables. The larger ones can be used as serving trays as well. The top/rail is held in place with rub blocks. I cut the base joints a little bit tight and plane the timber to suit the joint.
I'll be making up more of these as "pressies" for my friends and neighbours for Christmas. Normally I don't like to give out woodworking presents because of all the labor involved, but I can make one of these before I get out of bed in the morning.
The canoe bench at the top of one of the photos was carved by a mate.

    Cheers, Bill

    Niphphty!!

Hope the footprint is sufficient for them not to topple.

I like them. Now the question that I have is when did you last spill your coffee on the keyboard?

Novel. I enjoy they idea of using them as a portable means to place a cuppa somewhere.

Christos, it happens all too often. My laptop copped a dose of Irish Breakfast tea not too long ago. Thankfully after a day in a warm area with the keyboard removed and a bit of handiwork with a hair drier it lives to tell another tale.

    Cheers Fellas,

No coffee spills yet. I'm almost finished with a tenor ( de facto ) archtop.

At least now the electrical parts do not get soaked.
