Spectacular Table lamps

Hi Folks,

I don't usually post too many images because I don't copy things and I don't want to encourage others to do so. The timber in this lamp is Tasmanian Blackwood recovered from the root buttress that was recovered all those years ago from a recently felled stump
.
I 've been wearing a track round this piece of timber and one cur from beside it for about 25 years. Last week after a casual glance at my birth certificate in the course of making wills etc I decided to do something about it.

I hooked it out and over the course of 15 hours of sanding and scraping I got it to this stage. Finished to 400 grit all surfaces flawless then two coats of thin shellac followed by 3 coats of pre- cat lacquer de-nibbed between all coats at 24 hour intervals.

Just thought I'd like to share it with you. It's much more interesting to watch than television!

Hope I've got the technicalities correct!

Glad you enjoyed the images of the Blackwood Lamp Base. I guess I've got to share the images of this fairly spectacular Birds Eye Huon Pine one also. The back of the lamp is the natural outer log form. Enjoy!

Thanks IW for rotating the images. I don't have the time to play with the technology nowadays. So much to do and so little time to get it done. Yes Blackwood has to be one of the world's premier timbers as far as depth goes. It takes a fair bit of patient persuasion to get it to give up its secrets though.

Hi Folks,

As usual I lost the discussion with my wine merchant but there's always tonight for a return bout.

I'm posting the image of the third table lamp in this series as promiosed. It's high density Huon Pine with modest birds eye. I don't like too much birds eye it looks a bit busy to my thinking.

I'm not claiming design rights for this lamp. I made a pair for a client from her sketch which she told me she had taken off a similar example she had seen in WA.

The key dimensions are Height 350mm. Max body dia. 105mm and max base dia. 140mm. If any forumites are interested I'll supply them with a sketch of all the key dimensions but please for non commercial application only. P mail me.

If the images are the wrong way round would some kind forumite stand them up for me
