Craft Cabinet WIP
My sister wants a craft cabinet ... something to hold all her crafty bits and pieces but which will look nice in her living room. The timber furniture in her house is mostly light in colour, and she opted for camphor laurel.
First I made the legs, here they are, ready for final sanding.

Did not have a lot of camphor laurel, so the sides, top and drawer fronts will all be veneered. Sides and top will be veneered over MDF. Drawer fronts over NG rosewood. The new band saw makes cutting these veneers a breeze.
Have fun!

nice legs
That photo of the legs back to back is a great demonstration of the relative proportions of their profile. Something that's not immediately obvious to my eye when they are viewed individually.
Thank for posting it - they look great
Regards

John,
When I made my first set of cabriole legs I set them on the table like that pretty much by chance. Then I noticed that if I walked around them I could more easily see any imperfections in shape/proportions, so I have done it ever since. If you walk around them when they are stacked as shown in the pic and they look proportional and pretty, you are likely in pretty good shape.
Cheerio!

Progress
The base is now made and ready for final sanding.

And here is the carcass, freshly glued up in it's clamp farm. Ends, top and drawer fronts are all veneered. Top and ends use MDF as substrate. Drawer fronts will have a timber substrate. The ends are an almost prefect match, but other than me, nobody will notice that.

The drawers are next on the agenda.

And here it is with the top resting in place, yet to be routed.

Everybody is saying how good this build is John and I can't disagree, very nice so far.
Looking forward to seeing the finished item.
You certainly aren't wasting any time getting it done. You must be loving using that new Laguna

Thanks Nick and Ian.
Yes, The Laguna is a delight to use.
I am developing a fondness for camphor laurel timber. It is pretty as well as good to work. Also, it is a stable timber.
Cheerio!
