Question Dark spot on teak garden couch

    Hey guys,

This week I received a teak couch I ordered. It looks great, however, it contains some very dark spots on top of the back support, see picture.

My question is: is this likely to be natural and therefor to be expected on teak furniture, or is this damage caused by improper handling or woodworking?
The rest of the couch is quite even, so this really catches the eye.

    Thank you in advance,
    Regards,
    Jasper

Looks natural to me. Just the figure of the wood. Great thing about wood is no 2 bits look the same.

In all honesty the builder's could've been more selective about which boards were used where to minimise this effect, but I'm doubtful it was built by someone concerned about the artistry.

It could've been worse: when I was a kid my old man bought an expensive lowboy stereogram with inbuilt sliding speaker covers. Nicely built, mostly solid teak although the speaker covers were book-matched veneers. (Decades later I had to rebuild parts after removalists were less than ideal in their handling. )

I remember my Mum sniggering at Dad the first time he proudly closed the covers and stood back to admire it... and saw close-ups of Munsch's 'The Scream' replicated on each.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Probably comes from Indonesia. All their teak exports are supposed to be value added. Used to help a furniture store with repairs on their teak stuff. Furniture was ok structurally , but not much in the way of quality control when it came to wood selection and final finish.
