Wow!
I recon I am a couple of years away from that quality - but you certainly have given me a high mark to judge by!
Great work!______________________________________________

Nice Work Rocker

Junkboy,
I wish. My shop is a 30' x 40' uninsulated tin shed, so I think AC would be fighting a losing battle in it.

I now realise that I really need to get some more practice in, comparing my efforts to yours
WRT the grooves on the leg bottoms, I also found the same issue - so just cut a parallel edged marking board to the width required, and with each leg clamped on the bench with the marking board perpendicular to the leg's centreline, could scribe a marking line.
BTW have you looked at the inlay section in the current issue of FWW, which spell out the process that Mr Latta used for inlaying the Bell Flowers? Very interesting stuff, but a bit beyond me as yet, methinks!
Cheers!

Rocker, I dips me lid! Great work, good visual balance, finish first class. The proportions look good as well.
Do you think that you will use the "expansion" possibilties often? What is the diameter?

Major,
Ok, I might have been able to do the narrow stringing, but I didn't really think the result would have repaid the effort involved, especially the two-toned stringing that Latta used.
Steve,
I probably should have looked more carefully at Latta's article on stringing and banding more carefully; I should have used his method of mitreing the banding to get the pattern consistent. I just glued four separate pieces around each leg.
Jacko,
Unfortunately, Bridge players are thin on the ground in Elimbah, so I shall probably only use the card-table as such once in a blue moon. It just serves as a decorative piece meanwhile. The table diameter is 905 mm.

great work. something I could only aspire to achieve one day...
whats the story with this minwax poly.
Gumby was raving about it ages ago, then there was talk that it was no longer made. Ive never seen it anywhere over here.
have they started production again or do you still have a large stockpile?
cheers

Still available mate, I have it and use it when I don't want just shellac / wax. It's just about Bassoon proof, and that's saying something...

I bought a litre of Minwax Wipe-on poly from Bunnings at Morayfield recently, and it looked like new stock. If your Bunnings doesn't have it, they should be able to order it for you.

Rocker, that is quite simply the most beautiful piece of work and, in spite of your comments, is more elegant than the magazine item. I have been unable to type for a few days (problem now solved - batteries in wireless keyboard (dammit!)) so couldn't thank you for showing it, post a greenie nor ask about the finish ... all of which are now answered.
I've been in the doldrums lately, diagnosed by SWMBO as "lack of a current woodwork project" so this has inspired me back to the shed.
thanks again, Fletty
