I wept a bit for your salutation - but it is a nice desk.

Originally used wipe on poly but the finish didn't work out so I cut it right back and gave it a few coats of precatalysed lacquer. The desk base is recycled jarrah the top is jarrah and the drawer is she oak.

That is beautiful, I am about to try a coffee table with a similar top/rail set up.

Can I ask how you got the gap between top and rails? Routed or a piece of timber? I was thinking something along the lines of a 25x15mm piece glued between??

    cheers.

Hey pilch as you can see in this image I have supports under the top to not only use to fix the top down but also to create the negative detail. All I did was make the supports finish 5mm above the front and rear rail. If you're considering making a coffee table this style consider making the rails used between the back and front legs and also the one between the rear legs a tad wider, as in I made these 40x30 I'd recommend at least 50x30 for extra rigidity.
