    Bugger!

Applying the sanding sealer and the top is full of pin holes and bubbles. Given that it is damaged (cracks and voids) end grain I should have expected that.
Thankfully, the Solarez filled all the pin holes and stopped the bubbles. It took three attempts to do the job, but given that each attempt takes five minutes and that the last two were just putting a tiny drop on a pin hole or two ... no big deal. A coat of sanding sealer is now on the top and drying.

    Graeme,

    Thanks for the kind words.

The drawer pulls are brass and were purchased from Bunnings.

The legs are not difficult to make, especially if you have a linisher or similar. You can then make the radius of the curves the same as your linisher wheel and this speeds matters up more than somewhat.

For those of you who are into veneering ...

I am kinky for book leafed veneers. I once made a large coffee table for my niece which had eight veneers, see below, but it is difficult to find timber where the grain stands at right angles to the face so the veneers repeat as they are cut off.

Recently, I bought a couple of decent looking log rounds from one of my timber suppliers. Because the veneers cut from these rounds are end grain I get brilliant repetition, veneer after veneer. This desk used six veneers, but I could have laid out fourteen veneers and had almost exact repeatability. The rounds were quite thick, and I got between 14 and 22 veneers from each piece.

The downside is that the veneers are not very long. The longest I got was about 750mm. That's still OK in many circumstances.

If, like me, you are kinky for book matched veneers and are OK with 600-750mm long veneers (250-300mm wide), cutting them from end grain rounds might be a handy approach. Here are a couple more examples.
