Dining table WIP
It's been a while since my last project but the in-laws wanted to get a new dining table.
After getting a hold of some pine flitches off the forums I've started knocking up a 2800x900 dining table. I haven't quite worked out what I'll do with the edges of the table yet a nice routed edge perhaps.
Putting a straight edge on the flitches was a challenge but have made a sled to get the job done.
More photos to come but I buzzed up the first of the table top pieces on the weekend. The wood has dark waves all through it, is this water damage from long ago? The wood has been stored in a dry shed for quite a few years...

From the pics, the marks looks like bluestain, caused by a fungus that grows in the wet wood. It happens when the log is left too long after felling before being sawn, or the sawn boards take too long to dry down below 25% MC. The good news is, these fungi only feed on the sugars in the wood & have no effect on structural strength. The bad news is, it's virtually imposible to restore the 'natural' colour. Look on it not as a defect, but a feature that makes the pine less boring...
That is going to be a long & comparitively narrow table, lp - looks like it has to fit in a very defined area?

Ah thanks for the info. I don't think the bluestain looks too bad, bit of "character"!
The choices were either to take out one of the wall mounted cupboards at the in-laws house to allow us to get around where we eat, or make a long skinny table. It's usually a full house on Sunday nights with anywhere from 6-10 people all crammed in.

Getting there... Have been a bit side tracked of late helping my cousin working on a table we started ages ago (years) which is now just about done (see happy snaps).
Should get the inlaws table knocked over this weekend with any luck. Just jointing the table top together each night after work.
