The dressing table
Three years ago swmbo commissioned a new dressing table. Fully realizing the financial resources of the commissioner were restricted, the comissionee elected to wait until the said resources were at a sufficient level to pay for the commission. The dressing table was to be in maple and feature some carved panels to match a vintage wardrobe. The project also needed to have the appearance that it was made some time back, this is the finished project. The photography leaves a bit to be desired, but then $hyte happens doesn't it?

The door panels were split from a 19mm board to get a book leaf effect, and were fitted with beads in the back to hold the panels in.

Drawers were hand dovetailed traditionally

The mirror had to have a carved panel to match the old wardrobe.

One glass place quoted me $154.00 for the mirror including &88.00 for a beveled edge. A second place quoted me $83.20, including the beveled edge. Bit hard to figure that one.
The end panels are solid timber panels fitted into grooves to allow movement.

So now to put in the invoice and see what happens..
Comments and criticisms welcome.

Lovely work and not a chased screw thread or any segmenting in sight. Looked hard for it but could not find it. Sure you made it yourself?

Dressing Table
Jim
What a lovely dressing table beautiful workmanship.
The carving is superb it must have taken hours to do
I am also in the process of finishing a dressing table for my wife and I am looking at doing the same with bevelled mirror. Do you know what angle the bevel is so I can work out how deep to make the recess to install the backing support for the mirror please?
I also like and intend doing the same with the beading on the front. I have just bought a hand beading tool. Did you use a hand beading tool or router?
Thanks

Thanks Woody. THe mirror is 4mm thick with a 20mm bevel. I would suggest you allow 4mm to determine the width of the beads. I used an old wooden beading plane. The bead was cut on the edge of a 100 x 19 board, from both sides, then cut from the board on the saw bench. That way you can make two at a time.
